CAMP Kuleshov "the competition"

Not so different from the almighty Kuleshov’s experiments in 1910 Russia, the participant’s first mission is to find footage from 2023’s movie lineup (see below) and create something new.  Please be sure to download your appropriate categories slate and slate all work being submitted with your photo as instructed in the FAQ.  This is how you help us showcase your work for the event!!! Also you must submit an unslated version of your work for judging purposes.

Editorial category entrants must create a movie trailer using 1, 2 or 3 of the movies on the list and change the movie’s genre from the original(s) to another genre on the list. Now your camp counselors may have given a genre very specific to its movie's storyline, but if it’s obviously a general comedy or horror we suggest you steer as far away from anything like its original intentions. The broadening of the genres we list are meant to further the possibilities. We hope you embrace that. Additionally, we have opened up the mash up guidelines to allow selecting up to 3 movies to tell a story that is none of their original genres, but another genre on the list. See the FAQ for more detail.

Graphic category entrants will be challenged to create an opening title sequence for a movie that never had one or had a simple one. Stick to the actual genre of the movie chosen from the supplied list. The new opening title sequence should feel like it belongs to the film.

Sound Design category entrants choose a section of a film from a list of movie options to create an entirely new sound design. The interpretation of the scene through sound design must be noticeably different from the original and be original in and of itself.  Genre changes are not required, but allowable.  Most importantly, you must not mimic the original.

FOR SOUND SUBMISSIONS : You must submit the original movie scene you selected so the judges have a reference to how you’ve taken a different direction with the scene.  When submitting please follow this instruction…

  1. UNSLATED version - put 2 sec of black at the tail of your sequence followed by the original scene.

  2. SLATED submission should be your creation only for the show WITHOUT the original added in at the tail.

Music Score!!!!  Yes, introducing the brand new category for music.  Presented is a choice of thoughtfully selected movies where you create and score a music track for a scene that presently does not have one.  In this challenge, we want your scores to enhance the original scene and invoke emotion in line with the original movie.

Mind you, this is no ordinary movie list.  The Camp Counselors have worked hard to make a wide selection of “Kuleshov” worthy feature films.  By doing this, we hope Campers are introduced to new types of films and filmmakers.

All 4 categories are open to editorial and audio assistants, junior graphic artists, junior creatives, admin assistants and entry-level employees at AICP member post production and production companies.  Students and interns who are actively engaged with a member company may also enter Camp K. The competition is also open to assistants and junior-level employees at music companies that are members of the Association of Music Producers (AMP). Basically, anyone who is trying to find their voice as an artist, and be recognized.

Students and interns who are sponsored by a member company may also enter Camp K. The competition is also open to assistants and junior-level employees at music companies that are members of the Association of Music Producers (AMP).

Participants may enter as many entries as they’d like, and for any category (each with its own registration/fee). Counselors are standing by for all your questions and Camp Coaches will be available via our Camp Kuleshov Hotline (campk@aicp.com) for any counseling.

Specific category details are below. Please visit the camp FAQ page for more detail.
